What is an Nd:YAG laser?
Nd:YAG laser is named for the crystal that is at its core, it is an acronym for neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet. This solid-state laser has a special ability to reach deeper into the skin, with a wavelength of 1,064 nm. This is ideal for larger, deeper vascular lesions and blood vessels.

How does Nd:YAG work?

Nd:YAG is a non-ablative laser that emits photons at a specific single (monochromatic) wavelength of light energy: 1,064 nm. This wavelength is in the infrared spectrum, so it is invisible to the human eye. The oxyhaemoglobin chromophore absorbs most of the Nd:YAG laser pulse. This heats up the oxyhaemoglobin as well as the tissues that are rich in oxyhaemoglobin, such as blood vessels and other vascular lesions. Because of the deeper focus, it is better for larger and deeper vascular structures.
Due to the very precise nature of lasers, very little heating or damage impacts surrounding tissues.
Why Candela Nordlys Nd:YAG?
The Candela Nordlys laser platform incorporates both IPL and Nd:YAG allowing it to treat a broad range of different types of vascular lesions. It is clinically proven to provide very effective results with its various pre-set aesthetic and dermatologic treatments. The Nordly’s laser has been designed and developed for over 20 years.
It specifically targets blood vessels, while minimising damage to surrounding tissues.

What can be treated with Nd:YAG?

Nd:YAG is a very flexible technology as it can treat a lot of conditions, although there may be better options for some specific conditions.
A Nd:YAG laser is most effective for treating a range of vascular conditions, including:
- Vascular lesions
- Port wine stains
- Venous lakes
- Facial and leg veins, including telangiectasias
- Fungal nail infections
- Warts
What are the benefits of Nd:YAG treatment?
In cases of unwanted visible rosacea and veins, Nd:YAG can heat and collapse prominent blood vessels. It can also reduce excess tissue that makes the nose bulbous and red in some rosacea cases.
It is important to note that the Nd:YAG may not be the best treatment option for your condition, however, your specialist will discuss this with you in your consultation if that is the case for your skin.

What to expect
