Fractional Laser

Discover the transformative power of Frax that evens out pigmentation and stimulates collagen remodelling to rejuvenate your skin.

How does fractional laser work?

Fractional non-ablative laser is a treatment that is great for pigment, sun damage, scarring, and wrinkles. It stimulates the body’s healing mechanisms and collagen production, which helps to improve texture, reduce lines and wrinkles, tighten the skin, and remove pigment.

The laser sends very small, controlled bursts of energy through to the mid-dermis of the skin, causing microscopic, intentional damage to the skin. In turn, this stimulates the body’s healing mechanisms to produce collagen and fresh skin tissue. This treatment effectively addresses various skin concerns, including smoothing out scars and irregularities, tightening the skin, and rejuvenating sun damage. It also helps to improve skin texture.

What can be treated with fractional laser?

Fractional laser treatment is a very flexible procedure as it can treat a lot of conditions, although there may be better options for specific conditions. At Anue, we have two main types of fractional laser treatments, based on the wavelength of the laser. While both of them can be used for photoaging irregularities like facial lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, they are optimised for different treatment indications:

Fractional laser 1550 nm:

  • Improve acne and surgical scars
  • Treat stretch marks
  • Improve skin texture

Fractional laser 1940 nm:

What are the benefits of fractional laser?

Minimises redness

With the excessive heat from the energy it builds in the redness-causing vessels, fractional lasers effectively disintegrates them. For optimal results, the average patient will need around three treatments. This can change depending on how intense the redness or blood vessels are.

Reduces pigmentation

The fractional laser can remove small plugs of skin. In turn, this encourages the skin’s natural healing process and boosts collagen production. This ultimately reduces the visibility of scarring and pigmentation spots.

Improves skin tone, texture and scars

By creating a safe amount of controlled damage, the fractional laser can boost the body’s ability to produce collagen. The collagen helps the skin even out its texture and tone.

Preparing for fractional laser treatment

It is important that you keep the treatment area out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning for four weeks prior to the treatment session. While tanned skin can be treated, we will need to modify the settings, compromising your results and it will increase the risk of adverse outcomes.

Post treatment care

The full effects of the fractional laser treatment can take up to four weeks to become visible. Generally, a course of three treatments (case-dependent) is recommended for optimal results. Following the treatment, it is normal to experience some discomfort, redness, swelling, and a sensation like a mild sunburn. These side effects typically subside within a few hours to days. Some flaking of the skin for a few days is also normal.

We recommend a follow-up appointment four weeks after the treatment to assess your results, individual response, and to plan additional treatments if required.

Immediately after treatment

  • Avoid touching or putting pressure on the treated area for at least 6 to 8 hours.
  • Apply a cold compress or ice pack to reduce any discomfort or swelling.
  • Minimise sunlight exposure and use sunscreen.
  • Treated areas may initially darken, then lighten after 48 to 72 hours.

Skincare

  • Use a soap-free cleanser and a non-fragrance moisturiser.
  • Avoid exfoliation and any strong skincare products around the treated area for at least 3 days. This includes retinol (vitamin A) and vitamin C.
  • Apply sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher to protect the treated area and avoid prolonged sun exposure for at least 2 weeks post-treatment.

Activities

Avoid strenuous exercise, hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms for at least 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. Also, avoid swimming or soaking in hot tubs for at least 48 hours.
