Microneedling

Rejuvenate your skin with this innovative and minimally invasive treatment. Microneedling is renowned for its ability to deliver effective results with a short recovery time. As a dermatologist-led clinic we are able to offer Enhanced Microneedling to boost its effect.

Microneedling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, dermal needling, and skin needling) stimulates your own body to produce more collagen and elastin. It is a highly effective treatment for skin rejuvenation, smoothing out lines, pores and scars while improving skin texture.

Enhanced Microneedling sometimes combines treatment with presciprtion medications into the skin to boost its effect. Newer microneedling techniques have also demonstrated an ability to repigment white scars and other causes of lost pigment.

What does microneedling do?

Microneedling utilises small, sterile needles to stimulate the body’s regenerative mechanisms. This enhances the production of new collagen and elastin which are crucial elements for skin health and repair.

By inducing fresh and vibrant cells, the skin has the potential to disperse pigment clusters while limiting discolouration. It can smooth out lines, wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks. Ultimately, it promotes a more uniform and even tone across the skin.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Benefits of microneedling.

This treatment is a safe, minimally invasive procedure with relatively minor risks. It stimulates the body’s own healing processes and doesn’t need the use of medication for it to work.

The procedure has been proven to help improve the appearance and texture of the skin. It can also minimise scars, lines, and stretch marks. The procedure carries a much lower risk of causing skin discolouration than energy-based procedures (lasers, light, heat) in those with darker skin tones.

Minimise lines and wrinkles

The production of collagen and elastin declines with age, which is a factor in the development of lines and wrinkles. This treatment is a proactive way to boost collagen and elastin. This firms, tightens, and tones the skin, encouraging a more youthful glow.

Scar reduction, stretch marks, and smoother texture

Whether from acne or accidents, treatment can effectively reduce scars by helping to break up scar tissue. It also stimulates collagen production and scar remodelling, which improves elasticity, texture, and appearance.

Rejuvenation

The stimulation of new collagen and elastin production helps the skin regain its vitality.

Skin discolouration

Melanin production can become unbalanced for several reasons, including sun exposure, scars, and trauma. Skin needling can help break up excess pigment and encourage the generation of new, clear skin cells.

Microneedling with the SkinPen®

At Anue, we take pride in utilising the SkinPen® device for dermal needling. The SkinPen is the only microneedling device approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

Clinically proven, this technology effectively diminishes wrinkles and addresses the challenging issue of acne scarring.

Enhanced Microneedling

Microneedling is sometimes combined with medications and remodelling agents into the skin. Studies have demonstrated that prescription-only medications are superior to alternatives.1Pawar M, Singh M. By combining innovation with medical expertise, our approach ensures not only safety and reliability but also the delivery of visible and lasting results that meet the highest standards of skin care.

What to expect

Microneedling safety, sage.

Your first appointment will be a consultation with an experienced cosmetic nurse. They will review your skin concerns and treatment goals. This will allow the co-creation of your treatment plan to ensure that it is tailored to your needs.

Before the treatment, a local anaesthetic cream is applied to make the procedure more comfortable. The skin needling treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. About 2-3 treatments are required monthly to achieve optimal results.

Sterilised needles will be attached to the SkinPen and the practitioner will move the device over the skin surface. The recovery time depends on each individual, however, most patients can get back to their regular daily activities after the procedure. Note that exercise and exposure to sunlight are not recommended for at least 3 days post-treatment.

Following the treatment, you may experience some mild discomfort, swelling, and redness. After a few days, people can expect some crusting or scabbing of the skin as well as some short-term tightness, dryness, itchiness, and slight irritation. Eventually, there may be some skin peeling and darkening of the skin, followed by lightening.

Preparing for microneedling treatment

Before your treatment, your microneedling specialist will ask about your medical history as well as the medication or supplements that you are on. Together, you’ll discuss the goals you have in mind for your skin, then your specialist will share the realistic outcomes for your particular skin, and then they will come up with a treatment plan. Photos will be taken of the area that will be treated as a reference to show how the skin looked before the treatment. To prepare for your procedure, do not drink any alcohol or take any blood thinners at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.

Post treatment care

After the procedure, your specialist will cleanse your face if necessary and apply a moisturising product to keep the skin hydrated for a healthy healing environment. After the procedure, you will be able to resume your normal daily activities aside from exercise and sun exposure for at least 3 days.

We recommend a two-week follow-up appointment to assess results, ensure you have no concerns, and discuss the ongoing treatment plan (if appropriate).
