Real Results for Hyper Pigmentation
What causes hyper pigmentation?
It is normal for skin to have pigmentation from melanin. Hyper pigmentation (more than normal) can appear as discolouration on the skin. The most common causes are melasma, sun exposure, aging and genetics.
Please note that some pigmentation can be caused by underlying medical conditions and skin cancer, so it is important to ensure it is diagnosed correctly before treatment.
The Most Common Causes of Hyperpigmentation
Chronic sun exposure: is probably the most common cause of hyperpigmentation. It can result in lentigo and freckles (brown spots).
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: this is caused by some type of injury to the skin such as a burn, inflammation (e.g. eczema) or acne scars. It can become more obvious once the initial healing process has resolved. This occurs more commonly in those with darker skin types. It is normally temporary, although can sometimes take several months to resolve.
Melasma: is a ‘mask-like’, blotchy hyperpigmentation of the face. It is common during pregnancy, although it is not always caused by pregnancy. While not entirely understood, it does seem to relate to sun exposure and oestrogen exposure.
Other Causes of Hyperpigmentation
There are dozens of causes of hyperpigmentation and it is not possible to list them here.

What are the Hyper pigmentation Treatment Options?

It is important to ensure that the correct diagnosis is made for your hyper pigmentation. Some conditions, such as melasma can worsen with some laser treatments if this is not accounted for.
